Hope rink goes undefeated in winning Seniors title (Journal)

O’LEARY – Bill Hope finds out today if his wife gets to join him on the ice at the World Financial Group Canadian senior curling championships in Digby, N.S., from March 19 to 26.

Hope and his team of Craig Mackie, John Mullin and David Murphy won the Credit Unions of P.E.I. provincial senior men’s championship on Sunday in the minimum number of games at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary.

“We had a great outing,” said Hope. “There were hardly any slip-ups.

“It was just one of those weekends where everything went our way.”

The Charlottetown/Cornwall rink won all three event finals of the eight-team triple knockout championship to take the title without the need of a championship round. The Bob Matheson rink from the host club provided the opposition in all three finals. Members of Matheson’s runner-up rink are Muncey Harris, Glen Betts and Wayne Arsenault.

Meanwhile, in Crapaud, the June Moyaert rink from Montague defeated the defending champion Shirley Berry rink 10-2 in the C final. Berry, who played in all three finals, goes into Monday’s championship round needing to defeat Moyaert twice if she is to repeat as provincial champion.
