Birt back on winning track (Journal)

GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. – The P.E.I. representative at the 2016 Scotties Tournament of Hearts got back on the winning track Wednesday afternoon.

The Suzanne Birt rink from the Charlottetown Curling Complex overcame a 5-3 deficit to edge Saskatchewan’s Jolene Campbell 7-6.

Birt, third stone Robyn MacPhee, second stone Meaghan Hughes and lead Marie Christianson snapped a three-game slide and improved to 3-4 (won-lost) in round-robin action at the Canadian women’s curling championship.

Team P.E.I. will look to get back to the .500 mark against British Columbia’s Karla Thompson (1-6) in Wednesday night’s late draw.

Thursday, Birt will face Ontario’s Jenn Hanna (3-4) in the afternoon, and faces Manitoba’s Kerri Einarson (4-3) in evening action. The P.E.I. rink will then conclude round-robin play against Quebec’s Marie-France Larouche (4-3) on Friday morning.
