The Lauren Ferguson rink from the Cornwall Curling Club, and the Tyler Smith foursome from the host Charlottetown Curling Complex both went undefeated, capturing all three divisions of the modified triple knockout draw, to win the junior women’s and men’s divisions at the Pepsi Provincial Junior (Under 21) Curling Championships without having to play the two-game championship round. The two teams now advance to the 2019 New Holland Canadian Junior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships, to be played Jan. 19-27 in Prince Albert Saskatchewan, co-hosted by the Art Hauser Centre and the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club.
Smith won this morning’s junior men’s “C” final 8-3 over the Chase MacMillan team, while Ferguson edged Cornwall clubmate Annika Kelly 8-7 to win the junior women’s “C” event.
Other members of the Ferguson rink, who will also be competing in the Canada Games in Red Deer Alberta this season, are third Katie Shaw, second Alexis Burris, and lead Lexie Murray, with coach David Murphy. Completing the Smith squad, who are also signed up for the Tankard provincial men’s championship, which starts Jan. 9 in Alberton, are third Ryan Abraham, second stone Alex MacFadyen, and lead Ryan Lowery, with coaches Robbie Doherty and Kevin Smith. Also receiving trophies were the finalist teams, skipped by Rachel MacLean and Chase MacMillan.
