Jamie Newson rink beats defending champ to win annual Island Petroleum Cashspiel at the Silver Fox

The 16-team Island Petroleum Cashspiel, open to Men’s, Women’s, Junior and Mixed teams, wrapped up at noon at the Silver Fox Entertainment Complex in Summerside, with the Jamie Newson rink from the host club and the Charlottetown Curling Club defeating the defending champion Steve van Ouwerkerk rink from the Silver Fox and Cornwall in the main event final, and collecting an $800 payout.

Charlottetown’s Phil Gorveatt rink won the consolation final, beating Summerside’s Terry Arsenault squad, while the Mitchell Schut junior team from Cornwall beat Charlottetown’s Eddie MacKenzie team to take the”A” event. The “B” event went to Tyler Smith, who beat Crapaud’s Nick Blanchard squad, while the young Brayden Snow team took the “C”.
