The Ella Lenentine team from the Cornwall Curling Club are the PEI Pepsi Junior Women’s Curling Champions, after a 9-2 win over their clubmates the Rachel MacLean foursome Sunday morning in the C Section Final at the Crapaud Community Curling Club. Under the rules, a championship round is not requires when a team wins all three sections of th emodified triple-knockout draw.
This is Lenentine’s third title this season with teammates Makiya Noonan, Kacey Gauthier and Erika Pater along with coach Robbie Lenentine.
Finalists in this event is the Madalyn Easter rink from the Summerside Curling Club. While team Easter was not playing in the C Section Final they played in the A and B Section Finals, making them this year’s Finalists. Other members of the Madalyn Easter team include Reid Hart, Kenna Warnell and Brooke Lewis as well as coach, Shelley MacFadyen.
The Mitchell Schut team from the Cornwall Curling Club became a threepeat PEI Pepsi Junior Men’s Champions on Sunday morning at the Crapaud Community Curling Club after winning again the Brayden Snow rink. Like the girl’s division, the championship round was not required.
The Schut team is made up of Mitchell, Chase MacMillan, Cruz Pineau and Liam Kelly along with coach, Pat Quilty.
The PEI U18 and Canada Games representative, the Brayden Snow rink is also the Pepsi Junior Men’s Finalists. Brayden’s team is rounded out with Jack MacFadyen, Davis Nicholson, Liam Barbrick and coach David MacFadyen.
Team Lenentine and Schut will advance to the 2023 New Holland Canadian Junior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships in Rouyn-Noranda, Que.
At the closing ceremonies for the Pepsi Provincial Junior Curling Championships on Sunday, the Asham Coaching awards, as voted on by coaches and officials, were handed out, with Dennis Watts, coach of the winning junior men’s team from Cornwall skipped Isaiah Dalton, receiving the award for Junior men’s rinks, and Tammy Dewar, coach of the Sydney Carver team from Montague receiving the junior women’s teams award.
Also handed out were the sportsmanship awards, voted on by the curlers in the event. Reid Hart, third of the junior women’s finalist rink from Summerside, and Brock Rochford, skip on the Rochford rink also from Summerside were the recipients.
