Dalton and Collier rinks win Advantage Communications Junior Mixed divisions

The James Dalton team from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside and the Cornwall Curling Club edged the Alan MacLean foursome, also from the Silver Fox and Cornwall clubs 7-6 in an extra end in this evening’s final of the Under 21 Division of the Advantage Communications Junior Mixed at the Crapaud Community Curling Club. Dalton, who won the U16 division last year, finished atop the U21 single round robin standings with a 3-1 win-loss record, to earn a ticket to the 6 pm final. Three teams finished with 2-2 records, necessitating a tiebreaker between Leslie Noye and his combined Crapaud, Western, and Charlottetown team and Danielle Collings from Montague and Crapaud, which was won by Collings, 7-6 in an extra end. MacLean then took on Collings in the semi-final at 2 pm. Collings was leading that game 4-1 after three ends, but MacLean followed up a deuce in four, with steals of 2,1,1, and 2 points to come from behind and win the game 8-4, advancing to the final. The other team in the division, the Kelly-Lynn Younker rink from Cornwall, finished play at 1-3.

In the Under 16 division, Owen Collier and his Montague rink won their final double round robin game Saturday night, by a 7-6 score in an extra end, over the Alex Gallant foursome from the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club in Summerside to go undefeated with a 4-0 record and win the division without needing to play a final, as the rules specify that a final will not be needed in a double round robin if a team goes undefeated. Cornwall and Crapaud’s Mitchell Schut finished second at 2-2, while Gallant went 0-4. Other members of the winning Collier team are third Emily Sanderson, second Tyler Garnhum and lead Kaylee Stewart, with coach Nancy Collier. Completing the runner-up Mitchell Schut squad are third Taya Crossman, second Colin McKenzie-Mcleod, and lead Lauren Ferguson. with coach Dario Zannier.
