Dalton and Holland come from behind to win Advantage Communications Junior Mixed titles

(Mar. 17) The Advantage Communications / Curl PEI Junior Mixed Curling Championships wrapped up this afternoon at the Charlottetown Curling Complex, with two very close and exciting come-from-behind finals between four very evenly matched teams.

The James Dalton combined team from the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club in Summerside, and the Cornwall Curling Club, won the three-team double round robin Under 16 division, edging the Tyler Smith foursome from the Crapaud Community and Montague Curling Clubs by a 6-5 score in today’s final. Smith, aided by a 5th end triple, had a 5-2 lead after five ends, but Dalton came back with a single in six, a stolen deuce in the seventh end, and stole the final end as well, to pull out the victory. Playing with Dalton were third Lauren Lenentine, second stone Matthew MacDonald, and lead Breanne Burgoyne, with coach Pat Quilty. Completing the runner-up Smith foursome are Kaleigh MacKay at third, second Brooks Roche, and lead stone Kaleigh Peters. The team is coached by Kevin Smith. Both teams finished double round robin play with identical 3-1 win-loss records. The other team in the division, the Owen Collier foursome from Montague, did not manage to pick up a win.

The two-team Best of 5 Under 21 division championship was won by the Kyle Holland rink from the Charlottetown Curling Complex and the Cornwall Curling Club, who were trailing the Cody Dixon foursome from Montague 4-2 after six ends in the eight end contest, but came from behind with a triple in the seventh and a stolen single in the eighth end to win by a 6-4 score. The teams had both won two games in the best of 5 to force today’s sudden death fifth game. Other members of the winning Holland team are third Chloe McCloskey, second Taylor McInnis, and lead Sabrina Smith, with coach Paul Smith. Rounding out the runner-up Dixon rink are third Danielle Collings, second Dylan Lowery, lead Chloe Jardine, and coach Tammy Dewar.
