Kildare Capes brothers “rock on” (W. Prince Graphic)

The curling bug has bitten the Pitre brothers of Kildare Capes.

Shawn Pitre, 17, is travelling to Halifax to compete in the Canada Games for Team PEI while his brother, 20-year-old Spencer Pitre, recently travelled with his provincial champion team to the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Junior Curling Championships in Calgary.

Shawn has been curling for more than a decade at Alberton’s Western Community Curing Club.

“I am looking forward to the valuable experience I will get from the Games.” said Shawn Pitre, who is leaving for Halifax tomorrow, Feb 10.

Shawn has had a whirlwind schedule recently, with school midterms and twice a week practices with his curling team consuming much of his time.

But he takes it all in stride.

The Pitres have been busy travelers, with family members flying to Calgary to support Spencer, while a short week later father Paul Pitre is accompanying his younger son to Halifax.

“I have just started curling myself,” said Paul, who has one year of curling experience under his belt.

When asked which province is the biggest threat to Team PEI’s curling hopes, Shawn replied, “Definitely Alberta.”
