Team Pitre packing experience, team chemistry for national juniors (Journal)

CHARLOTTETOWN – Curling in a national championship is serious business, but the Spencer Pitre foursome knows that having fun is important, too.

The P.E.I. rink was scheduled to leave Thursday for the M&M Meat Shops Canadian junior curling championships in Calgary.

Pitre said the team has had conversations with Peter and Kathie Gallant, parents of Brett Gallant and the coaches for teams Brett skipped to five consecutive provincial junior championships, and one Canadian championship.

“Their big advice was to just go there, kind of take it all in stride and to make sure, above everything else, to have a good time,” Pitre recalled.

Pitre said they plan to follow that advice while trying their best in every game. Neither Pitre nor coach Peter Pidgeon was willing to discuss where they hope to finish in the standings.

Experience, said Pidgeon, is something all four curlers are packing for the nationals.
