Pitre rink takes top prize at Fox December junior cashspiel (Journal)-updated with slideshow

SUMMERSIDE – The Charlottetown Curling Club’s Shawn Pitre rink beat out the Tyler Smith foursome from the Cornwall Curling Club for the $500 top prize at the inaugural December junior spiel here at the Silver Fox Curling Club over the weekend.

Pitre, an Alberton native who previously curled out of the Western Community Curling Club, along with third stone Tony Nabuurs and second stone Parker O’Connor, won Sunday’s final 7-1. Lead Noah O’Connor was sidelined with an injury.

On the women’s side, the Jennifer Armstrong rink of the Fredericton Curling Club defeated the Emily Manuel foursome from Halifax’s Mayflower Curling Club 9-2 in the final.

Armstrong beat the Cornwall Curling Club’s Veronica Smith rink 10-5 in semifinal play, and ended the weekend with a 6-1 record.
