Donald Clarey rink (3-1) advances to playoff round at Halifax cashspiel. Dolan out at 2-2

The Montague Curling Club rink of Donald Clarey, Larry Richards, David Rice, and Steven MacLeod finished round robin play Saturday with a 3-1 win-loss record, and have advanced to the 9 am Sunday quarter-final round at the Atlantic Curling Tour’s Molson Mayflower Cashspiel in Halifax. They’ll be playing the Doug MacKenzie foursome, who finished the round robin at 4-0. Also at 4-0 are Marc Lecocq, who will play Bruce Lohnes, and Terry Odishaw, who faces Steve Ogden. Jamie Murphy plays Mark Dacey in the other contest. All these rinks are 2-2.

The men’s and women’s semis go at 12:30 pm, with Colleen Pinkney facing Colleen Jones and Mary Anne Arsenault taking on Heather Smith-Dacey on the women’s side. Smith-Dacey is 2-2, while the rest are 3-1. PEI’s Kim Dolan was also at 2-2, but did not advance to the money round. Men’s and women’s finals are at 3:30 pm.

In round-robin play, PEI’s Clarey rink, who are warming up for The Dominion Curling Club Championship, Nov. 21-26 in Richmond BC, stole the last two ends to edge the John Luckhurst 5-4 in their opener, downed the Brent MacDougall foursome 8-2, lost 7-1 to Jaime Murphy, who recorded a five-ender in the third, and got by Ken Myers 7-6 in an extra end.

The Dolan foursome, which includes Rebecca Jean MacDonald, Jackie Reid, and Nancy Cameron, lost their opener 10-5 to quarter-finalist Pinkney, edged Sarah Rhyno 8-7 in an extra, lost 7-3 to Smith-Dacey, and shaded Theresa Breen 6-5 in the round-robin.

Twenty men’s and 10 women’s teams took part.
