Smith-Dacey and Buott rinks win Dave Jones Molson Mayflower Cashspiel in Halifax

It was handshake time when Heather Smith-Dacey of the host Mayflower scored three in the seventh end to defeat New Brunswick’s Andrea Crawford 6-1 in the women’s final of the Dave Jones Molson Cashspiel, which wrapped up today at the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax.

On the men’s side, Smith-Dacey’s husband, Mark Dacey, ended up on the wrong side of a 6-3 decision to Mayflower clubmate Lee Buote, who was trailing 3-2 going into the seventh end, where he scored a deuce, and then stole another deuce in the final end.

Other members of the Smith-Dacey rink are third Jill Brothers, second Bliss Joyce, and lead Teri Lake, while third Colten Steele, Summerside PEI native Neil Gallant at second, and lead Nick Burdock round out the Buott foursome.

PEI’s Jamie Newson lost out to eventual winner Buott by a 5-3 score in the quarter-finals, to go 3-2 for the weekend.while Eddie MacKenzie finished with a 1-3 win-loss record. Kim Dolan and her Charlottetown rink had a 3-2 win-loss record on the women’s side.
