The Dominion Curling Club Championship and KFC Under 13 ch’ships take place this weekend

The PEI curling championship season has two events taking place this weekend – The Dominion Curling Club Championship, for curlers who have won their respective men’s or women’s club championships, and, for our youngest curlers, the KFC Provincial Under 13, with boy’s and girl’s divisions.

The Dominion Curling Club Championship

The Dominion gets underway Thursday afternoon at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton, with the club champions from six of the seven Island curling clubs taking part. The  Charlottetown Curling Complex men’s entry will not be decided until Wednesday evening.

The men’s and women’s round robins will go at alternate times, with women’s draws at 5:30 pm Thursday (Cornwall vs Ch’town, S-Fox vs Western, Montague vs Crapaud), 9:30 am (Western vs Crapaud, Ch’town vs Montague, Cornwall vs S-Fox) and 2:30 pm Friday (S-Fox vs Montague, Cornwall vs Western, Ch’town vs Crapaud), and noon (Cornwall vs Crapaud, Western vs Montague, Ch’town vs S-Fox) and 5:30 pm (Ch’town vs Western, S-Fox vs Crapaud, Cornwall vs Montage) Saturday.

The men play at 8 pm Thursday (Cornwall vs Ch’town, Crapaud vs Montague, Western vs S-Fox), noon (Montague vs S-Fox, Ch’town vs Western, Cornwall vs Crapaud) and 5:30 pm (Crapaud vs Western, Cornwall vs Montague, Ch’town vs S-Fox) on Friday, and 9:30 am (Ch’town vs Montague, Crapaud vs S-Fox, Cornwall vs Western) and 2:30 pm (Cornwall vs S-Fox, Montague vs Western, Ch’town vs Crapaud) on Saturday.

Following any tiebreakers (8 pm Saturday and/or 9:30 am Sunday), the second and third place teams will square off in their respective semi-finals, Sunday at 1:30 pm, with the winners taking on the 1st place teams in the men’s and women’s finals at 5:30 pm. All games are eight ends. The men’s and women’s champions will advance to the national The Dominion Curling Club Championship, November 18-23, 2013 at the Fort William Curling Club in Thunder Bay Ontario.

KFC Provincial Under 13

The KFC/Curl PEI Provincial Championships for the Under 13 age category get underway at 4 pm Friday, and wrap up on Sunday at the Crapaud Community Curling Club, with five girl’s and three boy’s teams participating. The boys play a double round robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the final, unless a team goes undefeated, in which case they will be declared the champion without a final game. The girls will play a round robin, with the second and third place advancing to the semi-final, and the semi-final winner playing the first place team in the final. Games are six ends.

Remaining round robin draws go at 10 am and 2 and 6 pm on Saturday, with the final boys round robin game 10 am Sunday. Tiebreakers, if needed, are 10 am Sunday (girls) and 2 pm Sunday (boys), with the girl’s semi-final at 2 pm Sunday, and the girls and, if needed, boys finals at 6 pm Sunday.
