PEI loses to Ont. in Extra End, and is out of playoff contention at Canadian Mixed

PEI’s Rod MacDonald rink needed to score two to force an extra end in their game against the defending champion Ontario rink, skipped by Cory Heggestad, this afternoon at the Canadian Mixed in Ottawa, and, with the help of a lot of sweeping on the final stone, they managed to do it. However, MacDonald’s final rock in the extra did not curl enough, and Ontario picked up the win, by a 7-6 score.

PEI lead Karen MacDonald was sidelined with an injury early in the game, with Diana Favel – a recent Ontario Senior’s and Master’s Champion filling in.

Ontario needs a win against the Northwest Territories tomorrow to make it to the playoffs.

With one round robin game remaining for most teams, Alberta and Sask. have 8-2 win-loss records, followed by Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick at 7-3.
PEI, at 4-6 will not make the playoffs, and finishes play at 8 tonight against the Northwest Territories.  Nova Scotia’s Rob Harris rink, at 5-4, is still alive for a tiebreaker, but needs to win its two remaining games and hope Quebec, New Brunswick and Ontario all lose their final contests

The final goes Saturday at 3 pm AST.
