Casey, Gushue both advance to money round at Challenge Chateau Cartier de Gatineau

The 10 am Atlantic quarter-finals are set at the Challenge Chateau Cartier in Gatineau QC, and the Adam Casey rink from PEI, along with the Brad Gushue team from Newfoundland and Labrador, which includes PEI native Brett Gallant, are both in the round.

Casey advanced out of the last-chance C side last night with a 7-4 win over Michael Fournier of Montreal, and takes on Don Bowser of Kingston ON in the quarters. Bowser beat Casey 7-3 earlier in the event.

Gushue stole a single in the final end to edge former teammate Casey by a 6-5 score in a B division semi-final match  Saturday morning, and then beat Mark Dacey of Halifax 7-5 Saturday afternoon in a B final to qualify for the money round in the event. Gushue takes on Jean-Michel Menard of Quebec in this morning’s quarters. Dacey was scheduled to play Mike McEwen of Winnipeg this morning, but McEwen has been awarded the game by default (not sure why Dacey team not playing) and has a bye to the 1:30 pm Atlantic semi-finals.

The other quarter-final matchup sees Peter de Cruz of Switzerland play Reid Carruthers of Winnipeg. The final goes at 4:30 Atlantic.

The Ottawa rink skipped by Souris PEI native Ian MacAulay lost to Sven Michel of Switzerland in a C semi-final yesterday and did not make the championship round.
