MacFadyen siblings win PEI Mixed Doubles Curling Championship
The brother and sister duo of Alex and Lauren MacFadyen picked up a pair of wins on Sunday over their Silver Fox Curling clubmates, the defending champion husband and wife team of Ed and Jenny White to capture the PEI Mixed Doubles Curling Championship at the Cornwall Curling Club.

Each team had won one of the three qualifying games for the Championship Round of the Modified Triple Knockout draw, with the third qualifier on the line Sunday morning. The Sunday “C” Qualifier was a closely-fought match, with the MacFadyens stealing a single in the final end for a 9-7 win.
This gave the MacFadyens a “double life” in the two-game championship round against their Silver Fox clubmates, meaning they would win the title with a victory in either of the two games, while the Whites would have had to win both to repeat as champions.
Team MacFadyen then won the first Championship game by a 6-4 score, with the help of a 3th-end triple, and a 5-2 lead after four ends, making a second game unnecessary.

Defending champs Team White win “B” Ch’ship Round Qualifier, three teams out at PEI Mixed Doubles
The defending champion husband and wife team of Ed and Jenny White will now join the Alex and Lauren MacFadyen siblings in the Sunday Championship Round at the PEI Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, following an 8-4 doubling of the MacFadyen rink in the “B” section Qualifier Saturday afternoon at the Cornwall Curling Club. The MacFadyens, who beat the Whites in the “A” Qualifier on Friday, stole the first end, but the Whites responded with a triple, and recorded another 3-ender in the seventh end. Both duos are from the Silver Fox Curling Club in Summerside.

Team White advanced to the “B” qualifier with a 15-1 six-end victory over Cornwall’s Amy Spence and Jack MacFadyen in the Saturday morning draw, while Team MacFadyen doubled Cornwall’s Nancy Milton and Calvin Smith rink 8-4 to advance to their second qualifier.
Of the seven teams who began play Friday morning in this event, only four remain, with Team MacFadyen taking on the Terri Wood and Alan Inman team from Crapaud, and Team White playing the Alison Griffin/Colin MacKenzie host club rink in “C” Semi-finals at 3:30 pm.
Wood/Inman stayed alive with a 7-6 shading of their clubmates Amy Spence and Jack MacFadyen Saturday afternoon, while MacKenzie and Griffin, who is back on PEI after working in Iqualuit and competing for Team Nunavut at the national Scotties in 2019 and 2020, and the 2019 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship, had to win two games today to remain in the event. In the morning draw they eliminated Cornwall’s Clara Jack and Brayden Snow team by a 6-3 score and then beat Cornwall’s Smith and Milton by a 9-5 score to advance to the “C” semi.
The “C” Qualifier will be played Sunday morning at 9. The Championship Round, which will include the White and MacFadyen teams and the winner of the “C” Qualifier (if not one of these teams) goes at 12:15 and, if necessary, 3:30 pm on Sunday.
If either the White or MacFadyen teams win two Qualifiers, they will play in both championship round games and win the title if they win either game, while their opponent would have to win both.
If there are three separate section winners, the team that played in the most qualifying games advances to the second championship game, and the other winners play off in A.
If there is a tie in the number of qualifying games played, then the team that qualified earliest goes to B and the other two teams play off in A.
The eventual winner will advance to the 2021 Home Hardware Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, March 18-25 at the Markin MacPhail Centre, in Calgary, AB.

MacFadyen duo wins 1st PEI Mixed Doubles Ch’ship qualifier game
The team of Lauren and Alex MacFadyen from the Silver Fox Curling Club in Summerside have won the first of three qualifying games for the championship round at the 7-team 2021 PEI Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, which got underway Friday and concludes Sunday at the Cornwall Curling Club. The duo won all three of their Friday games, taking their opener 10-1 over the Colin MacKenzie/Alison Griffin rink from the host Club, then defeating the defending champion Jenny and Ed White pair from the Silver Fox in Summerside 8-3, and going on to win the “A” section qualifier 11-2 in six ends over the Cornwall rink of Amy Spence and Jack MacFadyen.

With this modified triple knockout draw, winning teams drop down to play in the next section. If a team wins all three sections, they will take the championship without the 2-game Sunday championship round. A team winning two sections will advance to both championship round games and win the title if they take either game, while their opponent, the winner of the other section, would have to win both.
Team MacFadyen will play Cornwall’s Nancy Milton and Calvin Smith squad, who have a 2-1 win-loss record, at 9 am Saturday in a “B” semi-final, with the winner advancing to the “B” qualifier game at 12:15 pm. The other “B” semi sees Team White (1-1) take on the Spence/MacFadyen duo (2-1).
The Cornwall team of Clara Jack and Brayden Snow play their MacKenzie/Griffin clubmates at 9 am Saturday. Both teams have two losses, so only the winner will continue on in this triple-knockout event. The Crapaud duo of Terri Wood and Alan Inman also have two losses, and are in a “must-win” game at 12:15 pm Saturday.
The “C” semis go at 3:30 pm Saturday, with the “C” final at Sunday morning at 9. The Championship Round, if needed, goes at 12:15 and, if necessary, 3:30 pm on Sunday.
The winning team will advance to the 2021 Home Hardware Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, March 18-25 at the Markin MacPhail Centre, in Calgary, AB.
