PEI’s Casey and O’Rourke rinks are runners-up at Dave Jones Mayflower Cashspiel

PEI’s Adam Casey and Kathy O’Rourke rinks both finished as the runners-up in the Sunday afternoon finals of  the Dave Jones Cashspiel, an Atlantic Curling Tour event,  at the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax. with the men’s division won by Nova Scotian Mike Flemming with a 7-5 score over Casey, aided by a 4 point fourth end, and the women’s title going to Halifax’s Mary-Anne Arsenault, who defeated O’Rourke by a 6-4 score. O’Rourke led 4-1 after four ends, but didn’t get on the board in the second half, when Arsenault took a single, and then stole the final three ends, taking a deuce, and two more singles.

O’Rourke beat Sarah Rhyno 7-2 in the quarter-finals with Arsenault beating another Nova Scotia team, skipped by Heather Smith, 6-2. Sunday morning, while Casey beat Tommy Sullivan 5-2, and Flemming beat Brent MacDougall 7-3.

Arsenault then handed PEI’s Kim Dolan rink their first loss of the event, eliminating the Island rink with a 6-4 score in the semis, while O’Rourke downed Jocelyn Nix 7-2.  Casey edged Jeremy Mallais 6-5, and Flemming beat Alan O’Leary 9-6 in the men’s semis.

The other PEI men’s rink in the event, skipped by Tyler MacKenzie, did not manage to pick up a win. PEI’s Suzanne Birt rink were also in the event, finishing with a 2-2 win-loss record in the women’s round robin.
