Island rinks finish out of playoffs at Oak Island Jr. Cashspiel. Kaitlyn Jones team w. Lenentine advances

There’ll be no treasure for the PEI rinks at the Oak Island Cashspiel in Chester NS this year (although the MacMillan team did get a photo with the stars of  “The Curse of Oak Island” TV show). The World Junior Champion Kaitlyn Jones team, with Islander Lauren Lenentine, is undefeated, and one of the teams advancing to the 10 am junior women’s semi-finals, along with Kailey Bennett (Kentville), Cally Moore (Halifax), and Melodie Forsythe (Moncton). The 9 am junior men’s semis see Matthew Manuel (Halifax) play Graeme Weagle (Chester), and Coady Lewis (Moncton) take on Mitchell Cortello (Halifax).

The PEI junior men’s teams, skipped by Mitchell Schut (Cornwall), Tyler Smith (Ch’town) and Chase MacMillan (Ch’town) each picked up one win in the round robin, while Annika Kelly (Ch’town and Cornwall) picked up two wins on the junior women’s side, with Lauren Ferguson (Cornwall) picking up one victory, and Sydney Howatt (Cornwall), who faced both Forsythe and Jones, going 0-4.

Maritime junior curlers will be back in action this coming weekend, at the annual Fall Fling Junior Cashspiel, which starts Friday at the Silver Fox in Summerside.
