Cornwall’s Lauren Lenentine, Mitchell Schut rinks are U16 champs. Lauren Ferguson team are girl’s runners-up

The Cornwall Curling Club rink of skip Lauren Lenentine, third Kristie Rogers, second Lily Taweel, and lead Ellie Lenentine, with coach Robbie Lenentine, went undefeated with a 6-0 record to win the Advantage Communications Under 16 Girl’s Championship, which wrapped up this afternoon at the Charlottetown Curling Complex.

The Boy’s title went to the Mitchell Schut rink, also from Cornwall, who were the only entry. Three members of the Schut rink were the U13 champions last year, and the team came third in the U18 men’s championships last weekend. Other members of Team Schut are third Colin MacKenzie, second Michael MacEwen, and lead Liam Kelly, with coach Nancy Yeo.

The Lauren Ferguson foursome from the Silver Fox and Crapaud clubs, which included Tegan Corkum, Olivia Barbour, and Megan MacDonald, with coach Shelley MacFadyen, were runners-up in the Girl’s event, with a 4-2 win-loss record.

The Emma Coffin rink from Cornwall also finished at 4-2, but lost to Ferguson in their round robin encounter. Cornwall’s Alexis Burris and Rachel MacLean teams wrapped up play with 3-3 and 2-4 win-loss records, respectively, while Emily Sanderson from Montague and Katie Shaw from Charlottetown went 1-5.

The Girl’s Sportsmanship award, as voted on by the curlers in the event, went to Baily O’Grady, third on the Emma Coffin team.

The Coaching award, as voted on by all the coaches, went to Kaleigh Mackay of the Katie Shaw team.

Last year’s boy’s winners were the Donald DeWolfe team from Cornwall, who repeated as champs in the three team boy’s division, and were runners-up in this year’s U18 competition, while the Maria Doyle rink from the Silver Fox club in Summerside was the winning girl’s rink last year in a four team field. Neither team is entered this year.  Click for previous years.

Games are eight ends in length. Time clocks are not used. There is no championship round – winners will be determined by round robin wins/losses, head to head results, and last stone draw results (see below).

 

Draw and Schedule

u16drawTeams will be ranked following the round robin.

Rankings will be determined:

  1. By wins and losses of a team;
  2. If teams are tied, the head to head results of tied teams will be used;
  3. If teams are still tied, the cumulative last stone draw measurements (minus the highest draw) will break the tie.
