Ten mens curling teams will be competing for over $9000 in prize money at this weekend’s Atlantic Curling Tour Final at the Charlottetown Curling Club.
Six of the teams are from PEI. Mike Gaudet, hot off his recent win at the Summerside cash spiel, is seeded second overall. The other Island teams are junior sensation Brett Gallant, Kyle Stevenson, John Likely, Bill Hope and Kevin Champion. The other teams are Chris Sutherland and Doug MacKenzie from Nova Scotia, Rick Perron from New Brunswick and Alex Smith from Newfoundland.
The format will see two pools of five teams playing in a round robin format with one cross over game. The top four teams will advance the finals on Sunday.
Round robin play starts Friday at noon, with other Friday draws at 3:30 and 7:30. Saturday draw times are at 11 am and 2:30 and 5:30 pm. Any tie-breakers will be played Saturday evening. Semi-final action starts at 10 Sunday morning with the final going at 1 pm.
Rob Warren, manager of the Charlottetown Curling Club, says, “We’re inviting everyone to come and watch some of this region’s best curlers. There’ll be some great games this weekend.” There is no admission charge.
