Defending champions one of two unbeaten teams at PEI Stick Ch’ship

Day one is over at the Ferguson Funeral Homes Provincial Stick Curling Championships at the Cornwall Curling Club.  Stick curling has two players per team, who deliver their rocks with delivery sticks, with each team member delivering from opposite ends. All games are six ends. Seventeen teams are competing, with the winners and runners-up earning the right to compete in the Canadian championships, April 3-5 in Winnipeg.

Ernie Stavert and Sterling Stratton from the host club, who won this event in both previous years, are undefeated in the A pool with a 4-0 win-loss record. The duo of Rick Hardy and Bill Glydon from the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton are 3-0 in the other pool.

Round robin play continues with seven draws on Tuesday, with the first draw at 9 am and the last at 4:30 pm. The event wraps up on Wednesday, with the final and consolation final set for 3:10 pm.
