Going into day three of the inaugural The Dominion Provincial Club Curling Championship, Vanessa Hamming from the host Crapaud Community Curling Club is the only undefeated team, with a 3-0 win-loss record in the women’s section. Close behind are Rushell MacDonald of O’Leary’s Maple Leaf club, and Barb Currie of the Silver Fox, both with 2-1 records. The remaining women’s rinks, skipped by Paula Creamer (Charlottetown), Lorianne Davies (Cornwall) and Gail Greene (Montague) all have 1-2 records in the round-robin competition.
In the men’s section, two teams, skipped by Gordon Fall of the host club, and Brock Spence of Cornwall, are 3-1, while Louis Walsh of the Fox is 2-1. At an even 2-2 is the Montague team, skipped by Donald Clarey. The Daryl MacDonald rink from the Maple Leaf, and the Western Community Curling Club entry, skipped by Leslie Hardy are 1-2, while Robert Jenkins of Charlottetown is 0-3.
Round robin play wraps up Saturday, with men’s draws at 9:30 am, and 2:30 and 8 pm. The women’s division sees action at noon and 5:30 pm.
Tiebreakers, if needed, go Sunday morning at 10, with the semi-finals between the second and third place teams from the round robin going at 1 pm. The winners of the semis will face the first place teams in the 5:30 pm final, with the winners advancing to the 2009 national The Dominion Curling Club championship at the St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Toronto Ontario November 24-29. The 2010 championships will be held on the Island, at the Charlottetown and Cornwall clubs.
