The Montague Fire Department rink of Jeff Nelson, Mike Clarey, Tommy MacLeod, George Koke and fifth player Dusty MacClure won their opening game this afternoon, doubling the Quebec squad by a 12-6 score in the opening draw of the 50th Canadian Firefighters Muscular Dystrophy Hydrant Curling Championship at the Charlottetown Curling Club. The Island team scored triples in ends five and seven, and the teams shook hands after PEI took four points in the ninth.
In other games, Alberta downed the Territories 9-1, Northern Ontario beat Nova Scotia 8-2, and Saskatchewan edged Ontario 6-5 in an extra end.
