MONTAGUE — They fight fire like they curl.
And that’s why a rink from eastern P.E.I.’s largest town will be back at the Canadian finals this week for the 10th time.
It’s the 50th anniversary for the Canadian firefighter’s curling championships and the Charlottetown club is host to over 50 curlers from across the country.
But no one is counting out the P.E.I. entry, formerly skipped by Dusty MacLure.
The Montague native, along with mate George Koke, has represented the province at 10 different championships over the past 20 years.
And while he may be sidelined, MacLure will still be there cheering and providing tips to his teammates.
“I wish I could be out on the ice, but this is a great opportunity for three of our guys who have never played in a final,’’ he said.
The night before skipping his rink in the P.E.I. firefighters final, MacLure suffered a heart attack and asked Koke — the rink’s fifth — to take the reins.
