Saskatchewan’s Jeff Gartner rink, from the Regina Fire Department, are now at 8-1, after edging PEI’s Jeff Nelson team from the Montague Fire Department by a 4-3 score this morning, but giving up their first loss this afternoon, 8-3 to Nova Scotia’s Chad Stevens foursome. PEI had hammer in the final end, but ended up blanking the end adding another win to Saskatchewan’s total. Nova Scotia stole a deuce in end five and a single in six en route to their win.
Northern Ontario, skipped by Jeff Zechner, also has one win, but, at 7-1, has played one less game than Saskatchewan. Zechner picked up a 10-1 win over Manitoba today.
PEI lost their afternoon game, 6-5 to British Columbia, to slip to 3-5, while Nova Scotia, who edged the Northwest Territories 6-5 in the morning draw, improved to 7-2. BC also has two losses at 6-2.
Southern Ontario is next in the standings, at 6-3, followed by Alberta at 5-4, and PEI and Manitoba both at 3-5. The Territories and New Brunswick are 2-6, while Quebec has two wins against 7 losses.
Three draws remain in the round robin, at 9 am and 2:30 pm on Thursday, and 9 am Friday.
The two teams with one loss, Saskatchewan and Northern Ontario meet Thursday at 9.
PEI plays New Brunswick on Thursday morning, followed by the Northwest Territories in the afternoon, and wraps up round robin play against the Southern Ontario team on Friday morning.
The top four teams from the round robin will advance to the championship round, with the first and second place teams playing off in the Page 1 vs 2 game, with the winner advancing directly to the 1 pm Saturday final, and the loser playing the winner of the Page 3 vs 4 game in the semi-final, with that winner going to the championship game.
