PEI’s Suzanne Birt rink will not repeat as champions at the Lady Monctonian, losing their quarter-final match 7-4 to Truro’s Colleen Pinkney foursome this morning at Curling Beausejour in Moncton. The Birt team, which includes third Shelly Bradley, second Leslie MacDougall, and lead Stefanie Clark, with coach Charlie Sullivan, finished round-robin play with a 3-2 win-loss record, and were the only Island rink to advance to the quarter-final round.
The Rebecca Jean MacPhee rink also went 3-2, while the other PEI teams, skipped by Donna Butler, Kathy O’Rourke, and Anita Casey, did not manage to pick up a win.
In the other quarter-finals, Melissa Adams of New Brunswick doubled Mary Ann Arsenault of Halifax 10-5, Andrea Kelly of NB edged Jill Mouzar of Halifax 4-3, and Moncton’s Ashley Howard, beat Sylvie Robichaud from the host Beausejour club by a 5-3 count. The semi-final round at 11:30 sees Adams play Howard, and Pinkney face Kelly, with the winners facing off in the 2:30 pm final.
