PEI ends play at Canadian Mixed

PEI’s  Kyle Stevenson rink has finished round robin play at the Canadian Mixed in Burlington Ontario, with a 5-6 win-loss record, after losing their final games, 6-4 this morning to Saskatchewan, and 6-2 to BC this afternoon.  PEI had a 2-1 lead in this afternoon’s game against BC’s Jason Montgomery rink, until BC took four points in the 8th end and stole a single in the ninth.

With two round robin draws left, Ontario’s Mark Bice continues to lead, with a 9-1 win-loss record, and one game remaining to play. Pre-tournament favourite Mark Dacey of Halifax is next at 7-2, followed by BC’s Montgomery at 7-3, and Dave Boemer of Manitoba at 6-3. Action is underway in the 7 pm Atlantic draw. with the final round robin draw set for 10 am AT on Friday. Following  round robin play, the first place team will advance directly to Saturday afternoon’s final, while the second and third place teams meet in a semi-final.

In addition to the Canadian title, two players from the winning team will also represent Canada at the 2010 World Mixed Doubles Championship, slated for April 16-24, 2010 in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
