(CBC) A sitcom based on the curling movie Men With Brooms is coming to Canadian TV screens.
CBC-TV has bought a season of the comedy, about a group of guys in a small-town curling club.
Executive producer Paul Mather has revealed the comedy picks up the story several years after the events of the 2002 movie, which starred Paul Gross. Gross is to make a cameo in the first episode, he said.
“It’s a really fast-paced thing and I think it’s actually pretty modern and funny,” said Mather, who is writer and showrunner on the series.
Mather also penned episodes of CBC’s Little Mosque on the Prairie.
Men With Brooms will be part of a string of new projects the CBC will announce formally in the spring. No air date has been set.
A comedy called Insecurity, created by Virginia Thompson, the Regina producer behind Corner Gas, is also coming to CBC-TV.
