B.C.’s Christine Jurgenson thumped Ann McKellar-Gillis of the Northwest Territories/Yukon 10-1 on Friday to earn a bye to the final at the World Financial Group Canadian women’s senior curling championship in Ottawa. In other action, PEI’s Shirley Berry rink beat Newfoundland and Labrador 7-5 to end play with a 3-8 win-loss record. Quebec topped Ontario 9-8 and Manitoba beat Nova Scotia 6-5. Northern Ontario finished round robin play in second place at 8-3, with New Brunswick and Saskatchewan next at 7-4.
Also on Friday, Ontario’s Gareth Parry defeated Peter MacDonald of PEI 12-10 to retain a share of first place, tied with Saskatchewan’s Brad Heidt at 9-2, who beat Alberta’s Mark Johnson 8-4. Johnson finished round robin play in third place at 8-3, ahead of Ontario’s Al Hackner (7-4), Nova Scotia and Quebec at 6-5, and PEI and BC at 5-6. MacDonald won his last round robin game, 9-8 against Newfoundland and Labrador.
Semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday at 4 Atlantic, with the final on Sunday at 2:30 pm.
