PEI slips to 2-6 at Canadian Firefighters

PEI’s Gordon MacFadyen rink from the Summerside Fire Department lost both their Wednesday games, 9-7 to the Northwest Territories, and 5-4 to Manitoba, and have a 2-6 win-loss record going into the final two round robin games on Thursday at the Canadian Firefighters Curling Championship in Regina. MacFadyen, whose teamates are Leo Stewart, Dwayne MacNeil, and Jim Arsenault, had a 7-6 lead after eight ends against the Territories, but the Northerners stole a triple in the ninth to grab the lead. The Manitoba game was extremely close, with a single steal in the 7th being the difference for Manitoba.

Northern Ontario, at 7-2 now lead the standings, followed by defending champion Saskatchewan, and BC at 6-2, Manitoba and New Brunswick at 5-3, and Alberta and Southern Ont. at 4-4.

Round robin play concludes on Thursday with draws at 1 and 6 pm Atlantic time. PEI wraps up play against Southern Ontario and New Brunswick. The top four teams from the round robin will  advance to the Page playoff round, where the 1st and second teams play off, with the winner advancing directly to the Saturday final at 4 PM Atlantic, and the loser facing the winner of a Page game between the third and fourth place teams in the semi-final, with the winner of that game advancing to the final.
