REGINA — Kathy O’Rourke was ready to settle into retirement before the kids got to her and convinced her otherwise.
They were so convincing in their push that O’Rourke, a six-time provincial champion curler from Summerside, P.E.I., put off retirement and hitched her wagon to a team that boasted a pair of recently graduated juniors in Erin Carmody and Geri-Lynn Ramsay.
The influx of talented youth in women’s curling was hard to ignore.
“It was too good of an opportunity to turn down,” O’Rourke said after a weekend draw at the Sandra Schmirler Charity Curling Classic.
“These were two young girls who had a lot of success at junior and I felt they had a lot of potential.”
