Three out of the four PEI teams at this weekend’s sixth annual Lady Monctonian women’s cashspiel at Curling Beauséjour have made it to the quarter-final round. Advancing in this $11,000 20 team event are 2008 event winner Suzanne Birt and her team of Shelly Bradley, Robyn MacPhee, and Leslie MacDougall, along with Scotties silver medallists Kathy O’Rourke, Erin Carmody, Geri-Lynn Ramsay, and Tricia Affleck, and the team of Rebecca Jean MacPhee, Kim and Sinead Dolan, and Nancy Cameron. All three rinks finished round robin play with 3-2 win-loss records.
The fourth PEI team in the event, skipped by Donna Butler, with teammates Carolyn Coulson, Melissa Andrews, and Jackie Reid, finished play at 2-3.
The 8:30 am quarter-final matchups see MacPhee face defending event champion and 2010 World Senior champ Colleen Pinkney (4-1) of Truro, Birt take on Moncton’s Sylvie Robichaud (3-2) , and O’Rourke play Mary Jane McGuire (3-2) of Fredericton. Monctonian Ashley Howard, now attending UNB in Fredericton, takes on Theresa Breen (3-2) of Halifax in the fourth game.
The semi-finals are at 11:30 this morning, with the final and consolation final at 2:30 pm. Part of the proceeds from this event go to support the Moncton Autism Resource Centre.
