The Brent MacDougall foursome from Nova Scotia beat PEI’s Kevin Champion rink by an 8-3 score in the Sunday afternoon final of the 1st Annual Gahan Brewery Cashspiel at the Montague Curling Club. MacDougall beat out PEI’s Eddie MacKenzie rink in semi-final play, while Champion defeated Charlottetown clubmate Rod MacDonald. Paul Dexter, Chris Emmenue, and Peter Ross round out the MacDougall foursome. Champion’s teammates are Phil Gorveatt, Steven Champion and Robert Shaw.
In an all-PEI consolation final, the Robert Campbell team beat the Spencer Pitre rink. Playing with Campbell this year are Jamie Newson, Tyler MacKenzie, and Rob Doherty.
Sixteen teams from all three Maritime provinces took part in this inaugural event, part of the Atlantic Curling Tour.
The next event in the Tour is the Rodd Curling Classic, which begins Thursday afternoon at the Charlottetown Curling Club, with 18 men’s and 12 women’s teams taking part.
