Campbell clinches 1st Place and a Bye to Canadian Mixed Final

Postmedia News – MORRIS, Man. — There must be something about Manitoba curling ice that appeals to Robert Campbell.

The skip from Prince Edward Island clinched first place and a bye to the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship final with a 6-5 win over Alberta’s Tim Krasskan rink Thursday night.

Campbell, who won his previous national mixed title in 1989 in Brandon, Man., has a 9-1 win-loss record, followed by Nova Scotia at 8-2, and Manitoba, Ontario, and New Brunswick at 7-4. One round robin draw remains, with Campbell taking on Northwest Territories/Yukon. Other members of the Campbell rink are Rebecca Jean MacPhee, Robbie Doherty, and Jackie Reid.

Campbell improved to 8-1 Thursday morning with a 6-4 win over Nova Scotia’s Paul Flemming. Campbell scored two with the hammer in the first end and stole a point in the second and never trailed the rest of the way in the battle for first place.
