PEI Curler featured on calendar (Guardian)

By Al MacLeod.

The 2011 Women of Curling calendar has hit the shelves and among those featured is P.E.I.’s Tricia Affleck, lead for Kathy O’Rourke’s 2010 Scottie’s Tournament of Hearts silver medalist rink.

The calendar also features Olympic silver medalist Cheryl Bernard as well as defending Canadian champion Jill Officer of Jennifer Jones’ rink out of Winnipeg and five-time national women’s champion Colleen Jones of Halifax.

Proceeds from the sale of the calendar go to the Shoot For A Cure Curling campaign, a sport-focused awareness and fundraising initiative supporting Canadian and American spinal research organizations, which is focused on finding a cure for spinal paralysis as well as promoting awareness for the Paralympic sport of wheelchair curling.

Affleck’s main picture features the Milton native on horseback wearing a cowboy hat at a stable in Ebenezer.

Affleck said she chose the theme of a horse-riding setting because it was something she was familiar with and is one of her interests outside of curling.
