Rose vs Smith, Taylor vs Pitre in Pepsi Junior “B” Finals

The “B” and “C” finals go today at the Pepsi Bottling Group Provincial Junior Curling Championships in Montague. On Monday, defending champion Sarah Fullerton of Cornwall, along with Spencer Pitre of Charlottetown won the A Sections of this triple knockout event.

There will be a different winner in the junior women’s B section as Fullerton lost 10-7 in a B playoff game to Cornwall’s Veronica Smith team, which includes Fullerton’s younger sister, Katie, at third stone. A four-point fifth end was key for Smith, who was trailing until that point. Amanda MacLean of O’Leary’s Maple Leaf club, who played Fullerton in the A final, lost her B qualifier  6-4 to Carolyn Rose of Montague, so it will be Rose vs Smith in the B section final,  at 8:30 this morning.

In junior men’s play Monday night, Jeffrey Taylor of Cornwall outscored “A” section winner Sam Ramsay whose team includes players from the Charlottetown, Montague and Silver Fox clubs, 10-8 while Pitre downed the Tyler Smith-skipped junior men’s Canada Games team from the Silver Fox in Summerside 9-2. Taylor and Pitre will meet in the junior men’s B final today at 1 p.m.

The “C” finals are also today, at 8:30 pm, following afternoon draws at 1 and 5 pm.

The winners of the section finals advance to the two game Championship round at 11:30 am and 3 pm on Wednesday. If the same team wins all three sections, the championship round would not be needed. If a team takes two section finals, they would play in both games, and win the title if they took either.

The eventual winners will advance to the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Juniors, January 29-February 5, 2011, in Calgary.
