(CCA) The Queen of Hearts is Heading for PEI! Team Canada’s Jennifer Jones is coming to the 2011 Scotties Tournament of Hearts – February 19 – 27 at the Charlottetown Civic Centre – with her sights set on matching the record of four consecutive titles currently held by Colleen Jones, just a stone’s throw away in Halifax.
As defending champion, Jones earns an automatic bye into the 2011 edition of the Scotties – along with teammates Dawn Askin, Jill Officer and newcomer Kaitlyn Lawes at third.
The 2011 Scotties Tournament of Hearts marks Jones’ eighth appearance in the national women’s championship over the past decade, including winning performances in four of the past six years.
“It’s going to be exciting to see them trying to match Colleen’s record of four championships in a row,” said Kim Dolan, Host Committee Chair. “We know that when the representatives are declared from the rest of the country, there’s going to be some outstanding teams standing in the way of a fourth Scotties title”.
Qualifying events are underway over the next few weeks to determine who earns the right to join Team Canada at the Charlottetown Civic Centre. The PEI championships will take place January 27-31 at the Cornwall Curling Club. Follow the action live at the club, and get end-by-end results at peicurling.com/scotties. Six teams, including last year’s national runners-up, the Kathy O’Rourke rink, will be taking part.
Great seats for the 2011 Scotties are still available, including Take 5 mini packs with the option to choose the first five draws opening weekend for $75, or the final five on championship weekend for $135. Plus, you can add four weekday evening draws or the three Thursday draws for just $40.
