Six teams in running for PEI Legion Curling Ch’ships this weekend

Legion Curling

The 2011 PEI Legion Curling Championship takes place at the Montague Curling Club from January 14-16. Last year in Alberton, the Mel Bernard rink from the Summerside branch beat the defending champion Charlie Wilkinson foursome in both the A and B finals to win the 2010 event.  Both Bernard and Wilkinson are back this year, along with teams skipped by Grant Somers, Donald Clarey, Des Arsenault, and John Holmes. Wilkinson and Bernard will meet in the opening draw, set for 1 pm Friday. The other opening matchups in this double knockout event see Somers play Clarey, and Arsenault take on Holmes. The final draws are Sunday at 10 am, and 2:30 pm. If the same team wins both A and B sections, the 2:30 pm draw will not be needed.

This year’s winner will advance to the Dominion Legion Curling Championship, March 19-25, in Hudson Quebec.
