Kelly Scott’s Kelowna rink off to Scotties after nailbiter championship
After stealing a point in the 10th end Sunday to pull out a nail-biting 5-3 win over Kelley Law in the B.C. women’s championship, Kelly Scott’s Kelowna rink is off to Charlottetown for the first time next month for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
It’s the sixth trip to nationals in the last seven years for the diminutive Scott, four of them as B.C. champ and twice as skip of Team Canada. But never to Prince Edward Island.
“We hear it’s fantastic,” said a beaming Scott after the win before 450 fans jammed into the Cloverdale Curling Club. “Cathy Overton-Clapham [the third on reigning Canadian champion Jennifer Jones’ rink] said [the ‘99 Scotties in Charlottetown] was her favourite. It’s exciting to be going to a Scotties in P.E.I.”
