CALGARY — Afternoon wins by B.C. and Manitoba eliminated Sarah Fullerton and her Cornwall rink from the playoff picture Thursday at the M&M Meat Shops Canadian junior curling championships in Calgary.

Fullerton and her rink of Michelle McQuaid, Sara MacRae and Whitney Young had been prepared to play the game of their lives late Thursday night with hopes it would get them into a tiebreaker for the playoff round. But that chance was thwarted when both B.C. and Manitoba won in the afternoon, while P.E.I. was idle.

In men’s play,  the Charlottetown team of Spencer Pitre, Matthew Nabuurs, Dylan Webster sparing in place of Eric Pidgeon, and Connor MacPhee, also won its Thursday morning game — 8-5 over Manitoba.

“We played well against Manitoba,” said Nabuurs. “We executed and kept the pressure on the opposition throughout the game.

“This has been a great competitive and social experience. Overall, we feel like we played well for our first time at this championship.”
