Sandra Schmirler Day

Today is Sandra Schmirler day at the 2011 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Charlottetown, with the Sandra Schmirler Foundation  raising funds for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (QEH NICU). Sandra Schmirler Day was created in 2001 as a legacy to Sandra Schmirler in recognition and celebration of her love of family.

The Sandra Schmirler Foundation will match every dollar raised for the QEH NICU, up to $50,000.

Donations are now being accepted and will wrap up during the Island Kitchen Party, with “Boys in the Kitchen” in the HeartStop Lounge beginning at 5 pm.

Kim Dolan, 2011 Scotties Host Committee Chair, says Sandra Schmirler Day will be an event to remember. She encourages eveyone to consider making a donation.  “We’re also inviting the public to join us for a good old fashioned Island kitchen party where donations will be accepted at the door. Anyone donating $100 or more today will receive a Sandra Schmirler Foundation 10th Anniversary medallion,” says Dolan. “Live entertainment from ‘Boys in the Kitchen’ will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the HeartStop Lounge directly following PEI’s game against Quebec.”

“Sandra’s former team mate, Joan McCusker, will also be here to share some intimate curling stories about her team. We really hope people will come out to help celebrate while also supporting this terrific cause.”
