Kinkora high school catches Scotties fever (Journal)

KINKORA – Kinkora Regional High School (KRHS) is like most of Prince Edward Island – it has caught the Scotties Tournament of Hearts’ fever.

KRHS received 50 tickets for Tuesday morning’s round-robin draw at the Charlottetown Civic Centre.

But instead of just handing the tickets over, vice-principal Debbie Caissy and athletic director Trent Ranahan wanted to create excitement about the Canadian women’s curling championship returning to P.E.I. for the first time since 1999.

“Once Debbie and I heard that our school received tickets to the Scotties, we started to brainstorm how we would hand them out,” said Ranahan. “Rather than randomly giving the tickets out, we decided to create some buzz by having a draw-to-the-button competition and daily trivia questions.”

Leadership students Cody Dawson, Taylor Baglole and Meagan McCardle organized these events.

“Hurry hard was a common phrase during our lunch hour,” noted Dawson. “Everyone had a great time cheering on friends and teachers, and it was hard for students to pass the stone to someone else, because they were having so much fun!
