Memorial and Laurier rinks win CCA/CIS Curling Ch’ships

The Memorial Sea~Hawks men’s curling team of Colin Thomas, Cory Schuh, Chris Ford, Spencer Wicks and Stephen Ryan have won the Dominion Insurance CCA/CISCIS Championship at their home rink at the RE/MAX Centre with a 7-6 win over Manitoba in the championship final on Sunday. The team scored two in the third and three in the fifth end to secure the win. Manitoba scored singles in the eighth, ninth and tenth to make it interesting but it was Memorial’s day.

Editor’s note: Spencer Wicks is the grandson of Gordon and Wilna Yeo of Summerside. 

On the women’s side, the Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks (skip Laura Crocker, third Sarah Wilkes, second Jen Gates, lead Cheryl Kreviazuk, fifth Pam Feldkamp, and coach Maurice Wilson) outlasted Brock Badgers 7-4.

The winning rinks earned the right to represent Canada in  Karuizawa, Japan in January 2012.
