(PEICurling.com) The Brett Gallant rink defeated the defending Canadian champion Robert Campbell foursome by a 10-8 score this evening to win the A section final, and earn a bye to the 10 am Sunday championship game of the M&M Meat Shops Provincial Mixed Curling Championship, being played at the Charlottetown Curling Club. Former Canadian junior champion Gallant is playing with 2010 Canadian Scotties runner-up Erin Carmody at third, along with his long-time teammate (and Erin’s brother) Anson Carmody at second stone, and lead Michelle Mackie.
Campbell was ahead 4-3 going into the fifth end, when Gallant scored four points to grab the lead, scoring three points to Campbell’s four in the second half to hang on for the win. In tonight’s other game, ten time PEI Mixed champ John Likely downed Tammy Dewar of Montague, the only non-host club rink in the four team double-knockout event, by an 8-3 score.
In the Friday afternoon opening draw, Campbell fought back from a 3-1 deficit with a triple in end seven, and stolen singles in the next two ends to double Likely 6-3, while Gallant recorded an 8-3 victory over Dewar.
On Saturday at 10 am, Likely will play Campbell, with the winner taking on Gallant at 3 pm in the B final. If Gallant wins that game, he will take the championship. If he doesn’,t the two teams from the B final will play again in the sudden death final on Sunday morning at 10.
This year’s winning team will advance to the 2012 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, November 12-19, 2011 at the Sudbury Curling Club in Sudbury, Ontario.
