Menard wins Casino Lac Leamy Challenge in extra end-Gallant is quarterfinalist

It was an exciting finish this afternoon at the Casino Lac Leamy Challenge in Gatineau Quebec, with the hometown favourite Jean-Michel Menard of Gatineau and Levis coming from behind by stealing a deuce in the eighth end to tie the final at 6-all against Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie Ontario. Menard stole another in the extra end for the win. Other members of the Menard foursome are Martin Crete, Eric Sylvain, and Philippe Menard.

Meanwhile, PEI’s Brett Gallant rink will be going home $3000 richer after losing out to Toronto’s Mark Keen rink in an extra end by a 6-5 score in this morning’s quarter-final round.  Keen picked up a triple in the first end, but the Gallant rink fought back and stole the eighth end to tie things up, but Keen pulled out the win in the extra. The Gallant rink includes Eddie MacKenzie, Anson Carmody, and Alex MacFadyen. Gallant’s former teammate, Adam Casey, playing with Brad Gushue of St. John’s, was also eliminated in the quarters, losing 5-4 to Brad Jacobs. The semi-finals saw Jacobs beat Rob Rumfeldt of Guelph 7-2, and Menard get by Keen with a 5-3 score.

Total purse was $36,500 in this World Curling Tour event.
