PEI’s Suzanne Birt rink have a 2-1 win-loss record after Friday play at the 44th annual International Bernese Ladies Cup in Bern Switzerland. The Birt foursome, which includes Shelly Bradley, Robyn MacPhee, and Leslie MacDougall, won their opener 7-4 this morning over Russia’s Anna Sidorova rink, and scored three points in the eighth end and stole a single in the extra  in a 6-5 come-from-behind win over Winnipeg’s Cathy Overton-Clapham team this afternoon. The Birt bunch suffered their first loss this evening, 7-5 over Anna Hasselborg of Sweden, and now play Corinne Bourquin of Switzerland tomorrow at 8 am.

The PEI rink gained entry into this 32 team $20,000 cashspiel by winning the Curl Atlantic Championship in September, beating Colleen Jones in the final. Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones, Mirjam Ott of Switzerland, Hasselborg, and Michele Jaeggi of Switzerland are still undefeated. The final and consolation final go Sunday at 2 pm Central European Time.
