Team Canada advances to 8 am semi-final round at Youth Olympic Games

Team Canada, which includes O’Leary PEI’s Emily Gray, defeated the Czech Republic team by a 7-6 score this morning to advance to the 8 am AT semi-final round against Italy at the Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck Austria. The Czechs led 3-1 after three ends, but the Canadians scored a triple in four and stole a deuce in the fifth to pull ahead 5-3. The Czechs narrowed the lead with a deuce in six and a stolen single in seven, but Canada blanked the final end for the 7-6 win.

The Italians knocked out previously unbeaten Team USA by a 7-5 score, and now face Team Canada in one of the semi-finals, which begin at 8 am PEI time, while Sweden takes on Switzerland in the other. The Swedes blanked Norway 8-0 this morning, while Switzerland edged Japan 4-3.

The gold and bronze medal games get underway at noon PEI time.
