Rod MacDonald and Robert Campbell rinks to play in 1st Tankard qualifier at 6:30 pm

Gallant and Clarey suffer first losses – Rod MacDonald and Campbell only undefeated rinks at Tankard

After Friday morning play, Charlottetown’s Brett Gallant rink and Montague’s Donald Clarey rink are no longer in the undefeated ranks at the PEI Tankard, being played at the Cornwall Curling Club. Clarey lost 7-4 to Rod MacDonald of Charlottetown, while Robert Campbell beat clubmate Gallant by a 5-3 score. MacDonald stole three points in the first two ends to get off to a quick start in his game, while Campbell scored a deuce in the seventh end in his game against Gallant, which was marked by single points and three blank ends.
This now puts undefeated MacDonald and Campbell in the “A” final of this triple knockout event, set for 6:30 this evening, with the winner of that match grabbing the first of four qualifying spots for the Page playoff round.

The next draw in the Tankard gets underway at 1:30 this afternoon, with Rob Young of Cornwall taking on Charlottetown’s John Likely, Biair Jay of Summerside taking on Mike Gaudet, Jamie Newson playing Charlottetown clubmate Charlie Wilkinson, and Peter MacDonald from Charlottetown playing Bill Hope from Charlottetown and Cornwall.

The PEI Tankard winner will advance to the Tim Hortons Brier, March 3-11 in Saskatoon.
