Mike Gaudet rink comes from behind to beat Brett Gallant team to advance to Tankard 1-2 game

The Mike Gaudet team, trailing 4-1 after seven ends of play, came from behind with a deuce in the eighth end, a steal of another two in nine, and a steal of one in the 10th to beat the Brett Gallant foursome by a 6-4 score Saturday night at the Cornwall Curling Club to advance to the PEI Tankard Page “1-2” game, Sunday at 1:30 pm, against the Rod MacDonald rink. The winner of that game will advance directly to the final, Monday evening at 6:30, with the loser squaring off against the winner of the Sunday evening’s Page  “3-4” game in the semi-final at 1:30 Monday afternoon, and the winner of the semi then advancing to the final. All six teams continuing on in the 12 team event curl out of the Charlottetown Curling Club.

Other members of the Gaudet rink are third Tyler MacKenzie, second Tyler Harris and lead Sean Clarey, while third Kevin Champion, second Mark O’Rourke and lead Andrew Robinson round out the MacDonald foursome.

Gallant will now take on Jamie Newson, while Robert Campbell will play John Likely Sunday afternoon at 1:30, with the winners advancing to the Page “3-4” game 6:30 Sunday evening. On Saturday night Newson defeated the Silver Fox Curling Club’s Blair Jay 5-2, Likely edged Bill Hope from the Charlottetown and Cornwall clubs 6-5, and Campbell beat Peter MacDonald from the Charlottetown club 7-3.

The PEI Tankard winner will advance to the Tim Hortons Brier, March 3-11 in Saskatoon.
