Sarah Fullerton’s Cornwall and Charlottetown Curling Club team finished the weekend tied in third place with a 2-1 record following a 6-5 extra end victory Sunday night. The team stole a single point in overtime to defeat Newfoundland and Labrador, skipped by Erica Trickett.

On the men’s side of the competition, Alex Matters and his Charlottetown rink suffered its second loss of the day, 9-3, Sunday night at the hands of Colin Thomas of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Fullerton, combined with Michelle McQuaid, Sara MacRae, and Hillary Thompson lost earlier Sunday, 9-4 to first place Alberta, following an opening day 11-4 decision over the Taryn Williams rink from the Northwest Territories.

“We knew they were going to be a very strong team,” Fullerton said about the Alberta squad skipped by Jocelyn Peterman. “They are Canada Games silver medallists, and we expected them to come out strong. We didn’t play too badly, but they were very strong.”

After six draws on the opening weekend of the 12-game round robin, the Alberta women were in top spot with a 4-0 record. B.C. was 3-1, followed by the Fullerton rink and three other provinces.

On the junior men’s side of the championships, Matters and his team of Chris Gallant, Kyle Holland, and Andrew Cameron were in seventh spot with a 1-2 record — but still only one game out of a playoff position. Alberta and Quebec, skipped by Brendan Bottcher and Felix Asselin respectively, were in first with 4-0 marks.
